Representative Council Meeting - May 4th

REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL MEETING
MAY 4, 2015 at 4 pm
Attending:  T. Millard, A. Bohn, C. Townsend, V. Mendoza, K. Dillenburger, M. Carr, A. Campa, A. Kuhn, E. Ruebusch, H. Smith, J. Hunsche, J. Oden, M. Richardson, N. Carpenter.
I.                    Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 19 will be attended by Terry, Julie, Anne and speakers.
a.     Want speakers to balance the negativity of inside millage issue.
b.    Tom Millard, Janine Hunsche, Hilary Smith, Mark Campbell, Steve Seeger, and Beth Kamen.
II.                  Financial Report
a.     One disbursement:  Freking & Betz
b.     Lunches still to occur:  ES/MS

III.                District Leadership Council
a.     Hour long meetings; 1x/qtr
b.     Need building representation

                                                            ii.      PS?
                                                          iii.      If interested in position, let Anne know.
III.  Plan for breakfast on August 12, 2015
      A.  Where?  Elementary school
      B.  Should membership dues for new members be $335 or $400?
                   Keep it the same, even for new members.  $335.
      C.  What do we want to convey to members?
                   Small table activity/conversations, Core Six support                       
IV. Inclusion of in-laws for sick leave purposes
      A.  Schools who have inclusion language in their contract:
                   1.   Sycamore
                   2.  Loveland
                   3.  Fairfield
                   4.  Kings
      B.  Schools who do not have inclusion language in their contract:
                   1.  Wyoming
                   2.  Forest Hills
                   3.  Lakota
                   4.  Milford
C.  To be explored further as we approach negotiations.
IV.              Attendance
a.     By building: between 5-10 days average absence rate for teachers
b.     Will now get reminder on salary notice and summative eval.
c.      Council would like the issue to be raised as a professionalism concern by us before the administration brings it to our attention as a problem
d.     Competition between buildings?
                                                              i.      Idea:  Quarterly free lunch for winner of lowest absences
                                                            ii.      Idea:  Possibility of financial incentive from district if we reduce Guest Teacher costs.
                                                          iii.      Idea:  Peer elected “teacher of the year” includes attendance
                                                         iv.      Idea:  Changing simple vernacular from “I get 15 sick days/year” to I have the protection of 15 days if needed.
V.                Concerns from Buildings
VI.              Do we want to send an acknowledgement of courage needed to raise issue of integrity and test scores at Turpin?  Let’s consider a letter/card of support after APs.  Julie to generate and get feedback.
